Five Vegetarian foods you should never eat

Not every vegetarian eats a healthy diet. There are many high calorie vegetarian processed foods that are not good for the body, and there are also many low calorie vegetarian processed foods that are not good for the body. This is why a healthy diet should consist of homemade fresh ingredients with little to no processing. If you do plan on going to the store, remember that even though it may be convenient to buy vegetarian foods that have been processed, you should always avoid buying the following foods.
1. Anything Processed With Soy
You will find many products that have soy in them. Soy is commonly used to replicate the appearance of meat, such as burgers, hot dogs, or chicken.
There are many genetically modified foods (GMF’s) on the market that are available for us to eat, and because proper labeling is not required when the food has been modified in Canada or the United States, it is not always easy to tell when we are buying a GMF. Genetically modified foods can consist of plants that have been altered from their original state so that the food can survive in non-native conditions, repel pests, grow bigger, and have desired traits. Therefore, we are not eating the original version of the food that was meant to provide us nourishment, but rather an altered food that is meant to pretend to provide us with nourishment.
Soy is one of the main genetically modified crops. In fact, it is said that about 94% of soy is genetically modified. Soy is abundant in most vegetarian processed foods, and is labeled as soy protein isolate or soy protein concentrate. This includes soy burgers, soy oil, soy ice cream, and soy cheese. Not only is the food GM, but it contains unhealthy fats and other compounds.
2. Veggie Burgers
If you want a meaty patty between two buns, it is best to use a large Portobello mushroom or a homemade recipe with grains and beans, and avoid the processed veggie burgers. Most store bought veggie burgers are lower in fat and calories than the meat they are trying to replicate, and they are often recommended as a healthy option; but, the truth is that they often contain chemicals, additives, preservatives, GMOs and unhealthy oils in them. If you really need to pick up a veggie burger on the go, then buy one that is soy-free and uses organic ingredients without preservatives.
